The Bob Stock Memorial Trophy (15/07/10)
We are pleased to announce that we have been presented with the prestigious Bob Stock Memorial Trophy for 2009-2010 with the award being made at the Dorset & Wilts RFU AGM held yesterday at Salisbury RFC.
The trophy is given annually by the Dorset and Wilts Referees’ Society to the club which, in a number of key areas rated by the match officials on each visit, scores the highest aggregate points over the season. Not only did we come top overall (out of 36 clubs) but we also headed four of the six categories!
Whilst the award recognises the preparation that goes into each and every home match, and the hospitality we strive to offer on matchdays, it also takes account of how we play, and how we behave on the field. The fact that we came top in that category too is testament to the spirit and discipline shown by all of our players, despite it being a difficult and disappointing season.
They, and everyone else involved at the club, can be very proud of this accolade.
Fixtures for 2010-2011 (21/06/10)
Our fixtures for the new season in Dorset & Wilts Division 2 South have now been confirmed and the initial version shows all the 1st XV league dates, plus the reserve or cup weekends as things stand at present. We have entered the D&W 1st XV Plate again this season but dates for that are not expected to be advised until after the season starts, particularly if the RFU regional cups are run again this year.
We will again be arranging a couple of club friendly matches as part of our pre-season build up, and have every intention of organising as many development games as possible throughout the season for our 2nd XV as we seek to increase the number of players regularly turning out for the Club.
The initial version of the Fixtures List for 2010-2011 can be downloaded from HERE.
Mark Kingman (03/06/10)
With great sadness we have to report that our former Chairman Mark Kingman has died. He was 46.
A true clubman, Mark first pulled on a Puddletown shirt at the age of 18, only for a promising playing career to be ended far too early by a serious car accident.
After a spell working in London he returned to Dorset in the mid 90’s and it was as Club Chairman from 1996 until 2003 that he will be best remembered, with his enthusiasm and hard work in that role earning him great respect and winning him many friends both at the club and throughout the Dorset and Wilts rugby fraternity.
In due course we intend to announce a fitting legacy that will ensure that Mark’s dedication and loyalty to Puddletown RFC is never forgotten, but for now we simply wish to offer our sincere condolences to his family and close friends. Our thoughts are with you.
Mark’s funeral will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday 10th June at Puddletown Church.
A new Forum page, dedicated to Mark has been created on the Club website. If you would like to pay tribute to him, or have any stories or anecdotes about him, then please do share them. Mark would surely have appreciated all the attention!

The 2009 Piddle Dash (15/10/09)
The Club hosted the third annual Piddle Dash last Sunday (11th October) with 90 entrants completing the 6 km course. This year’s event has so far raised over £7000 in aid of The Prostate Cancer Research Foundation and the locally based Weldmar Hospicecare Trust, a sum which is already £2000 more than the 2008 total.
In the Inter-Club Challenge Westbury RFC, for the second year running, won the award for fastest team around the course, whilst Puddletown’s own team of Adam Church, Barry Dovell, Geoff Puryer, and Kevin Voss picked up the prize for most sponsorship money raised.
Thank you and well done to everyone who competed in, helped run, sponsored, or otherwise supported this successful and enjoyable annual event.
Sponsorship (22/09/09)
We are delighted to confirm that Dorset Piddle Brewery is now the Club’s Main Team Sponsor.
In a 3-year deal formally announced this week, the Brewery’s distinctive ’I love a good Piddle’ slogan will feature on the 1st XV’s new playing strip with immediate effect, and on the 2nd XV shirts when they are replaced in 12 month’s time.
Both sets of kit will also carry the Prostate Research logo across the shoulders in recognition of the Club’s ongoing support of the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation.
Dorset Piddle Brewery now heads up an increasing list of generous sponsors whose support is so vital to the Club’s continued well-being. These include The Old Ship Inn, Sportsgear, D J Chutter & Sons, and Vivid Commercial Interiors. We thank them all.
